Sunday Sights and Sweets

Today was a bit of a departure for us, as we didn't have all sorts of plans. We returned to the Skytrain and it's amazing how much more comfortable we were with taking it on the second day. We almost looked like we knew what we were doing! In the late morning we arrived downtown and for a little bit we just looked around, amazed at all the beautiful architecture, huge cruise ships (two more Holland America ships were docked), and busy people, coming and going. As Dave fuelled up with some breakfast, I got a call from Elizabeth - and it felt so good to hear her voice! Yesterday, Sheila and her family Facetimed with us when we at the harbour, and it was so much fun to show Calla and Finnan the water and tall buildings that surrounded us ("CC, are you at the beach?"). With today's call, Lochlan had all sorts of questions about the bear we had seen near Jasper, and Cameron was pretty excited to tell me about the jeep he was playing with. Oh my goodness, we miss those little ones so much!

We attended mass at the Cathedral of our Lady of the Holy Rosary on Richards Street. It was packed! Every Sunday, the cathedral has seven masses! Pretty incredible.

It was so nice to get coffee and just stroll the sidewalks today. We went into Holt Renfrew thinking it connected to the main mall, the CF Pacific Centre - and maybe it does, but we never figured it out. Instead, we went up and down the escalators as we were surrounded by Gucci, Givenchy, Prada, Louis Vuitton and Valentino - and felt quite out of place with our windbreakers and running shoes! Our total visit there lasted about five minutes!

What goes well with coffee? Well, donuts, of course! TripAdvisor highlighted one donuterie in particular (yes, apparently that is an actual word!) and there we made a couple of delicious purchases. Clearly this place is a hipster hangout (once again, Dave and I were out of our element) - so we got our donuts "to go". He ordered a smoked maple walnut and I chose the apple crumble. Both were total yumminess (it's always better to share)!

We walked around some more, and then decided to head home. Our campsite has a pool and hot tub, so we decided to go for a relaxing dip. After supper we spent some time trying to figure out tomorrow. We hope to rent a car, bring the poster to Amy at her school and then get onto the ferry from Horseshoe Bay, destination Nanaimo - which should be our hub on Vancouver Island.

I expect that tomorrow will be a much busier one than today was - looking forward to getting on that ferry!

And to all a good night!

It's been so much fun exploring downtown Vancouver!

"Mmmm, donuts..." (in the voice of Homer Simpson, of course!)

Just noticed this sign posted in our rv campsite after two days of being here - I didn't know bears could be in this neck of the woods!
