This One's for You, Dad...

Updated: Jan 1, 2020

I am a country girl for sure - I was so happy to step out from Roberto this morning and look at the beautiful countryside that is and that surrounds Brenda and Carl's acreage. It's a little piece of heaven! What a treat to be able to spend a bit more time with them and their girls today. They cooked us up a scrumptious breakfast - Carl could be a short-order cook - and the stories and subsequent laughs continued. We headed to church with them at Sylvan Lake; Dave and I remarked on how special it was for us to be able to share mass with them. A little lakeside tour of Sylvan Lake followed, and then we returned to their place, snapped a few pictures, hugged, then said our goodbyes, and were off - with two monstrous Honeycrisp apples. Perfect for sharing!

Next stop: Edmonton! Yes, I am using an exclamation mark because West Edmonton is a part of Edmonton, and we all know what West Edmonton is most famous for: the West Edmonton Mall! More to come about that later...

I know I have made a reference to my dad in the title of this entry - and the reference is in connection with where we visited before we made it to Edmonton (Lord knows my father is not a shopper so the West Edmonton Mall would not be a source of excitement for him). The place we went to was recommended by Brenda and Carl - it is the Reynolds-Alberta Museum. It celebrates all things mechanical, especially those of the past. It highlights the changes in transportation, aviation, agriculture and industry from the late 1800s to the present. If old cars, trucks, motorcycles, planes and agricultural tools (plus lots more) interest you and you are in the area, you should definitely check it out! The museum is also home to Canada's Aviation Hall of Fame. I found a cool local connection as one Hall of Famer, A.D. McLean, was born in Maxville in 1896!

Now, if you know my dad you will understand the title of tonight's entry.

Below are several photos that make up a tiny fraction of the exhibit.

And then, yes, the West Edmonton Mall (sorry Dad, you will probably lose interest in tonight's blog entry at this point) - what an incredible place! We actually got there after it closed, but went to a movie so we were able to walk all around. Water slides, sea lion exhibit, pirate ship in a huge water setting, mini putt, skating rink - are just some of the entertainment options you have while visiting.

I must return tomorrow when the mall is opened. MUST.

Dave's response when I said this to him: "Why? We got to see the mall tonight!" Once again, everyone, do you see what I have to put up with? :)

As I go to bed tonight, I will be dreaming of Louis (Vuitton) and Michael (Kors) - see you tomorrow, boys!

And good night to you, too! xoxo

1986 Chevrolet Chevette Cameo - this was the car I did my driver's test with when I was 16! Mom and Dad said I couldn't use their car the morning of my test so a friend of mine reluctantly lent me his Chevette to use! After being given three chances to properly parallel park, I got my license!

Loved the charming exhibits!

These vignettes stir up memories for many I'm sure - not the police cars for me, of course!

Coolest way to watch a movie!

Planes everywhere - Dave was so in his element!

Happy boy
